Course English Phonology

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the English sound system, bridging theoretical principles with practical application to explore the relationship between sound, meaning, and communicative efficacy. Students will analyze phonological structures, suprasegmental features, and sound variations across global Englishes, gaining essential skills for real-world educational and professional settings. Utilizing a case-study teaching method, students will actively engage with authentic auditory datasets and real-life scenarios to diagnose and resolve complex phonological issues, such as intercultural communication barriers and second-language speech transfer. In alignment with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), the course fosters equitable learning, enhances global workplace readiness, and promotes cross-border collaboration through mutual intelligibility.
