The Diskursanalyse or discourse analysis course is taught with the aim of providing students with an understanding of texts and discourse in German. The material provided is related to the position of discourse in linguistic units, internal and external elements of discourse, position of discourse structure, aspects of discourse integrity (cohesion and coherence), theme-topic-title, topicalization, discourse classification (based on: form, medium of delivery, number of speakers , content, and style and purpose), application of the principles of analogy and local interpretation, position of discourse analysis, and application of discourse analysis methods. Lecture activities take the form of text comprehension exercises which begin by analyzing cohesion and coherence as the main elements of discourse. Then students are given knowledge about what linguistic elements need to be analyzed to be able to express the meaning contained in the discourse. Student success will be assessed based on active participation in PBM, structured assignments, mid-semester test scores and final semester test scores.
