This course examines the interdisciplinary study of critical visuality, and the position of sociological interest in visuality in contemporary theories of social transformation and change. Highlights the development of global visual culture, digital culture, globalization, visual arts and media. The lecture module consists of a discussion of the importance of visuals in cultural construction in social life; introduction to key theories/conceptual perspectives on visuals; introduction to key terms for understanding visuality and visual culture; introduces various visual methodologies, with discussion and literature search strategies.
